Kelaniya Rajamaha Viaharaya
The Kelaniya Temple is a well-respected and known Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka that is built on the banks of the Kelani river. It is believed that Lord Buddha visited here and delivered a sermon after accepting an invitation made by king Maniakkika. The stupa and the temple itself are a magnificent site to witness.
Gangarama temple is a unique temple which was built in the 19th century and is decorated by Sri Lankan, Indian, Chinese and Thai architectural features while sustaining a quirky museum with several artifacts. Those of you who are interested in visiting a Buddhist temple in Colombo without wandering too far, Gangarama temple is the place for you.
This International Conference hall and Convention center was the first of its kind in Asia at the time it was built. Up to date all the major political and international events, business and trade exhibitions are held most of the time here.
The independence square/ hall located in the heart of Colombo is a memorial which has been designed showcasing the Kandyan architectural features from the past. It is mainly used as a location to hold national and cultural events of importance signifying the harmony of the Sri Lankan people.
